This will work fine for 8 inch or smaller cakes, which cake decorators rarely make, but I have doubts about larger cakes like 14 inch. A two layer 14 inch cake is pretty heavy. The seller tells the diameter in the description and there is a 20% restocking fee plus buyer pays return shipping so it's not really worth returning if you don't like it. So don't buy it if you are looking for something to do stringwork on a wedding cake. I just think it's too small. Since most cake decorating turntables are 12 inches, I just assumed this one was too. It is made of plastic as well but the photo looks like a heavy duty steel. Don't just look at the picture like I did. Read the description before you buy..

Here is a versatile decorating wheel that tilts and rotates. The quality is wonderful. It consists of two heavy plastic plates connected by two hinges. Loosen the locking handle on the side and you can tilt the tabletop as much as 30 degrees. There is a thumbscrew under the top plate that allows you to lock the turntable, if need be, so it doesn't rotate or you can let it rotate freely on a high quality ball bearing ring fixed beneath the top plate. This wheel is useful in all sorts of crafts as well as being used for cake decorating. It's heavy enough not to move around and the 7-3/4" diameter top surface is covered with a non-skid material that will grip the object placed on it even at the maximum angle. All components are very good quality and will give years and years of good service.
