I found this flavoring only mildly buttery, and definitely very oily... I didn't realize it was a flavoring based on an *unspecified* vegetable oil. (It's basically a mildly flavored cooking oil of unspecified origin.) I am therefore presuming this product to be "unhealthy" since it could very well contain trans fats, etc., and being oil based rather than water/PG based means it's very high in calories too.. in which case, you may as well use real butter in your recipes. The manufacturer doesn't specify what kind of oil, nor do they supply nutrition information, and they do not return phone calls or emails to consumers either. Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with this product, and with the company. I expected much more. I rated TWO stars instead of one because it isn't a horrible butter flavor... just probably horrible FOR you.
That said, there are MUCH better alternatives from a flavor perspective (and also a nutrition perspective) for the home cook and professional chef alike. McCormick & Durkee both make decent products that are Water/PG based (& very few calories), though McCormick's food service quantity (16oz) is actually oil based as well - the McCormick consumer 1oz version is Water/PG based, and is my personal favorite at this point... it's quite yummy.
