(More customer reviews)I have two Tupperware translucent blue plastic 1-gallon pitchers that I use for iced tea, and over time they both became tea-stained and no amount of scrubbing or cleansers would get them clean. I saw recommendations on the web for using bleach or OxiClean to remove the stains, but I didn't want the chemicals, smells, or tastes leaching into the plastic and then into my iced tea.
Then I found someone who mentioned that they alternate iced tea with lemonade, and the acidic nature of the lemonade helped keep their pitchers clean. I don't really drink lemonade, but that got me thinking that somebody must sell citric acid, and when I came here to Amazon there it was.
Now what I do is at night before going to bed, I pour 1-2 ounces of the citric acid into the pitcher, then fill it to the brim with hot tap water, and let it soak overnight. My pitchers were stained from years of use, but after 3-4 of these treatments they are now back to being perfectly clean!
And I plan to use this process intermittently going forward to keep them that way - plus, it's citric acid so the worst potential side-effect would be a slight citrus taste in the tea, which I haven't tasted yet but probably wouldn't mind (particularly compared to bleach or detergent).
